Instagram is updating its metrics, introducing "Views" as a new universal metric for all types of posts, and will be removing Impressions, Plays, and Video Views metrics from their API.

In response to this update, starting March 20, 2025, we are making the following changes to your Instagram reports on Minter.io:

  • The new Views metric will replace Impressions for photos, carousels, and stories.

  • Plays on reels and videos will now be referred to as Views.

  • The Initial Plays and Replays metrics will be removed.

  • The new Views metric will replace Impressions in the Profile section. The new metric will now also provide a breakdown of views by followers and non-followers.

  • The stories Completion Rate and Full View metrics will now be calculated based on Views instead of Impressions.

How are Views different from Impressions and Plays?

For non-video formats, like photos, carousels and stories, Views are typically higher than Impressions. Views are calculated as the number of times your content is displayed, including repeat views from the same user in the same session. Unlike Impressions, Views also count each image in a carousel separately, which may result in higher Views counts compared to your previous Impressions count.

For reels and videos, this is only a name change; the calculation method will remain the same, and you should not see any changes to your data.

Is the Views metric available for older posts?

Yes, this update includes all available historical Views data.
